Minder Series 3, was probably the best ever....

....In my humble opinion anyway. The third series was sheer quality, not a bad episode, and the writing was on top form. It's widely regarded that Minder peaked in 1985 with the Orient Express Xmas special, however by this stage it was a toned-down family friendly version compared with the excellent earlier episodes.

I like every series of Minder from the Terry McCann years (I own them all on DVD), but series 3 for me was Minder at it's gritty best but with moments of pure comedy. Much of this is down to the show's regulars, now perfectly gelled and bouncing off each other. Some great performances too by guest stars such as Mike Reid, Bill Nighy, Richard Griffiths and Pete Postlethwaite. But superb episodes like "Looking for Micky", "Another Bride, Another Groom", "Poetic Justice, Innit?" and "Back in Good Old England" make this series my all-time fave.

Anyone out there agree, or if not which series do you think was the best, and why?

Series 3 is possibly the best, and you'll find a lot of people out there who will agree with you. The series had found the right balance between comedy and drama and was still very gritty as Minder was meant to be. 'Poetic Justice, Innit?' is also definitely one of the best episodes, if not the best.

I think Series 6 is probably my favourite, despite it only being 6 episodes and not very gritty compared to the earlier episodes but I found all episodes to be hilarious.

My favourite show from Series 6, was the hilarious "The Return of the Invincible Man". A slice of pure comedy gold.

Written by Leon Griffiths, who was always on top form. It was great to see Phil McCall reprise his role as the memorable Scotch Harry too. Every scene in this episode was superb, it probably has more laugh-out-loud moments than any other episode of Minder.

Series 2 and 3 were the best. Minder with Waterman and Cole was my favourite TV show ever. The Ray Daley years in comparison were fairly poor although watchable for Arthur. Favourite episodes for me were The Beer Hunter (the brilliant Brian Glover chuffer episode) and Back in good old England (Pete Poseltwaite, oily rag). Superb and I've seen hundreds of times. Such a shame that ITV butcher them when they show them on itv4 these days.
