Is there an episode which shows terry leaving?
Seems strange that I have never saw it. If so what was it like, emotional?

shareno there wasn't.
In the first episode with him, Arthur went to his flat only to find that Terry had gone to Australia to get away from him.
Thankyou. Guessed there wasn't as I surely would have saw it or read of t. Shame really as it would have been very emotional.
Although terry going to australia to get away from arthur is pretty funny
There never was a leaving scene as when they shot Waterman's last series they didn't know he was leaving the show.
It was almost traditional for Waterman to do a, "I'm not doing anymore episodes," at the end of each series. This was a cue for Euston/Thames to offer him more money. Eventually, his bluff was called and they replaced him. Cole used to do the same trick, apparently, but to a lesser extent and, anyway, was much more difficult to replace.
The replacement of Waterman came at the same time as a general move to get the show back to its roots - there was a feeling it had become too silly.
Thanks for the info. To be honest it was probably time anyway, as you said. I think the ray years fare up very well, the move to more drama orientated seemed to reinvigorate the show. Sucvh a shame that a very emotional scene such as terry leaving wasn't filmed though.
shareI saw an interview with Dennis Waterman in which he said if he told George Cole before the producers, Cole would have talked him into doing one last run and they would both quit at the same time. The leaving while staying on top idea.
shareThere is/was a couple of 80's interviews with Waterman on Youtube (most of them he is absolutely smashed!)... most of them he is saying "this is it!" when asked about the new upcoming series.... then there is one before the first Ray series where he gives his blessing on the show but says he is not interested in coming back)
sharei understand dennis Waterman felt his character had been reduced to being just Arthur daley's sidekick, and he'd had enough of it. his last series was not very good.
