BEST KNOTS LANDING Arc: 1989's Abby, Greg and Ted at the Sumner Group...

those Last episodes with Abby married to Greg and Ted Melcher running around killing the Japanese actor and Rick Hawkins was fantastic!! and the storyline turned Paige into a "good girl" too.....great writing!!! great sendout for Donna Mills as well, coming off of that terrible year that was the previous season: 1987-88, when the show paired her with Michael York....urgh!!!

I never liked Ted Melcher's character at all, but I did enjoy that story line with the Japanese guy. That was when Paige made sure Abby got stuck in the elevator 
No Charles didn't seem someone Abby would go for. Also when they did the scenes where Karen and Abby were young back in the 60's the woman who played young Abby was awfully miscast. Are we suppose to believe Abby was much heavier in her youth? Donna Mills is such a petite little thing.

This story line returned Abby to the nasty bitch she had been throughout most of her tenure on KL, towards the end, I think the writer's tried to soften her character and Donna Mills said "screw that" and left the show while it was still doing good in the ratings and somewhat "on top" instead of sticking around till it got cancelled -- which was about 3 years down the road

Well, yes and no. For the first 8 episodes of season 10 (1988-1989), Abby appeared to have softened after Olivia's suicide attempt, but it was all a ruse. The writers planned all along that Abby would screw over Karen and Gary by selling Lotus Point (to her) in which she would try and drill for oil. Donna Mills had seen the first few scripts for season 10 and thought Abby had been softened, not knowing it was all a ruse. She did announce plans to leave the show, but I don't think the majority of her decision had to do with the writers softening Abby. I think she believed it was her time to go. The show ran for 4 more seasons after she left. She had no idea at the time how much longer it would go, but it was already in its 10th season when she left so she probably figured it wouldn't last that much longer.

I agree, that Murakame storyline was awesome, and Robert Desiderio (sp?) Was fantastic as Ted Melcher. He and Abby made quite a team, and I loved how the characters interacted at the Sumner Group. Between that and the "who killed Jill" storyline, season 10 is quite underrated, imo.
