That Tune!

I havent heard it in over 20 years, as I stopped watching the show before it went off the air.

Now to hear it again, it sounds so uplifting, inspired.

And familiar?

Does it sound like it is a slightly off-edge "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree" or something?

Soap's them was daffy, and I always remembered it even before TVland showed it again, but I had completely forgotten Benson's theme.

I think "The Benson Theme" should go down in history as one of the greatest ever TV series themes, right up there with "Mission Impossible" and "Hawaii 5-O".
I sure love that bari sax part. I wonder who played that.

The theme was wonderful, but they cut it down on TVLand. Makes me want to buy the series on DVD.

The theme was cut back way back when the show first aired, I do remember that. But it has made me remember the long version as well.

The first season obviously had the long version.

I take it the first episode or first couple of episodes, will have the long version, or will TVland apply the shorter version to all the episodes.

Ah well.

Soap and Benson's theme is so similar because the producers (Witt, Thomas, Harris) used the same composer, George Aliceson Tipton. He also did the themes to The Golden Girls and Empty Nest. They were all a catchy tune to hear, no wonder the shows were always so fun to watch.

The only problem is that the theme begins to sound dorky when they keep repeating it throughout each episode.

The concluding episode "Made in Hong Kong" has the full version of the theme music.

I haven't seen this show in years. I still remember the theme!

We had timing! Tika-tika-tika-tika! Timing! TOCKA-TOCKA-TOCKA-TOCKA!
