so this show started the exact same year all in the family ended?

i thought all in the family ended in 1979, am i right? so then it begs the question since they didn't retool aitf then why did they start a new show why not just continue aitf? i mean this show is just like aitf except without gloria and meathead.

AITF ended Spring 1979 and ABP started fall 1979.

Without the Family it didn't make much sense to continue with the name: All in the Family

Norman Lear said the show could continue as long as it was renamed.
