a good show

I'd love to see this show again, it was very funny. My best memory about it was Denise Miller. She had a great butt and always wore tight pants. Sorry but young boys have to remember these things. (:

I was/am hardcore into All in the Family and was skeptical to the idea of Archie Bunkers Place. After watching the old episodes from the first seasons over and over on tape, I realize that I almost think it comes close to being the better of the two. O'Connor's control over ABP shows and I like the style of the comedy, its more diverse opposed to rather just politics or rascism, but while those factors are still there, theres a deeper comedy and drama mix unlike All in the Family. Its cool to see Archie a lot more mellow, you can see his dramtic side further here, especially when Edith dies. A truly great man. Oh, Im reading his book he wrote(autobiography), check it out, its damn good...

I have the year 1 dvd and it's not hard to see why the show held its own on CBS in the early 80s- in the beginning except for Stephanie all the actors were middle aged and none of them were "sexy" but that is irrelevant here- this show had a middle aged sensibility about it and as was said above there is a good mix of comedy and drama- its not just one liners, there is actual character development. Sheree North and Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers' guest appearances were good, Jean Stapelton, Allan Melvin and Anne Meara were very good in this show, but the best supporting player here was Martin Balsam- he really held his own against Carroll O'Connor and makes the show worth watching. Haven't seen any of the episodes after he left in many many years, but it seems that the show wasn't as good without him in it.
