Chris did a wonderful job, no doubt - and I too really enjoyed him as the "evil" man in III. But the whole notion that his glasses (and demeanor) is his front to fool humanity of his identity is misplaced, or too elevated in importance imo.
Yes, the glasses and his changed personal representation is indeed cloaking any potential resemblance. But the biggest reason his little "show" works is simply because Superman doesn't need any secret identity (he is not a human, with an exotic night job like Bruce) he is an alien who flies around in plane sight, with no mask or anything.
The mere fact that people might look for him amongst normal people, would make sense for someone like Batman as it is obvious he must have another identity, but not for the man of steel. None of us thinks Barack Obama has a secret identity, because why would he.... but hey, even he sometimes may dress up and get around... my point is that the glasses work, because they are not really needed... they just support the just-in-case senario, and I suspect perhaps it is more for the comfort of Superman himself, so he doesn't have to worry if his blue eyes might ignite this crazy thought that he may be someone else entirely.
