The Phantom Zone/Krypton

Why didn't The Kryptonians phase Krypton into the Phantom Zone? As a last ditch effort? Just in case Jor El was right. You'd have thought at least Zod would've done something like that.

reply

I mean they could've sent-out drone Phantom Zone Projectors in orbit near the solar system with those police-robots.

reply

It's a painful, two-dimensional place for criminals. It's the same reason you wouldn't build your house inside a prison.

reply

The simplest answer is that by the time they realized Krypton was doomed it was far too late. And would shifting the planet prevent it from exploding? They would have to move just the population. Either way, there was no time to do it.

reply

Indeed.

reply

No one believed Jor El in the comics.

So, there was no prep to save anything.

Jor El knew they were all arrogant and got a ship together for his son.

reply

I don't know much about Phantom Zone science, but phasing the entire planet into it would have been a big operation, I imagine.

As others have said, no one believed the planet was in danger other than Superman's dad.

reply

cuz comics its Immigration/Messianic allegory Jerry & Joe were Jewish immigrants

reply

I always thought it was because no one really wanted to save Krypton, including Jor El. He's painted repeatedly as having the intelligence and capacity to have saved the planet alone, yet he sent his son to Earth instead - not even his own wife or relatives or himself. It always made me think that he remained on the doomed planet on purpose, as penance for the foolishness of the entire Kryptonian race, who deserved their end.

reply

I have to admit it is even worse in the 90s Superman cartoon where the reason they don't believe Jor El is because they trust their AI Robot Braniac more. That makes them dumber in that imo.

reply

I know not trusting Jor El is officially "the" reason, but there is no real reasoning behind not investigating his claims, Brainiac or no. And Jor El could have saved more lives regardless of the powers that be knowing what was to come, including his own. He chose not to. Which to me was very indicative of Kryptonians being a little suicidal.

reply

I think a better word is arrogant and selfish. They didn't want to die but it was their arrogance and selfishness that caused them to all lose their lives.

reply

I don't disagree that they were arrogant and selfish, but I also think that they did have a chance to escape. I think they chose to accept death as punishment for this arrogance instead of getting away. Given the repeated nods to Jor El's and even Branianc's genius, there's no way only a baby could've escaped.

reply

Kryptonians probably were mostly global warming deniers who elected an illiterate ginger as president.

reply

This sounds like a really familiar scenario...

reply

Yeah, isn't it most curious? Hmm..
