Does anyone else cry?

I tear up every time when Pa Kent collapses right after he did a little bonding with his adopted son and gave him that talk.

Anyone else?

Damn, I'm good.

I didn't cry when his father collapsed...

But, I did cry during the funeral scene in Smallville, when Clark says...

"All those things I can do... all those powers... and I couldn't even save him."

Not being able to stop "Death" was a real eye opener for him...

And, in a way, it was also a real eye opener for any fan of Superman Comics, TV Shows, & Movies... Because... Superman is usually considered to be one of the most powerful, if not THE most powerful, superhero in comic book history. We ALL can easily think he can do anything and nothing can stop him, as long as Kryptonite is not around. It's easy to forget, and difficult to accept, that he does have limits.

It was a very emotional moment in the film.

Not only for a child dealing with the death of his father... but also due to the fact, he was "Superman", and that he didn't have the power to win, and lost where it hurt him the most.

This scene also tied in with Lois' death...

When he lost his father, he could not do anything about it. When Lois died, he relived the whole experience again, and went a little "nuts" while standing over Lois' body. Jor-el had told him not to interfere with Human History, but he didn't care now. He couldn't accept that another loved one died, because he wasn't there to save her. This time, he could fly, and he knew that if he could fly faster than the speed of light, he would be able to go back in time. He had to try, or he would not be able to live with himself. He succeeded and saved her.

Too bad cynics never wanna hear that.

I was 4 yrs old when i first saw this (1984). I cried and cried hard...to this day I cant watch that scene. very sad!

reply

No.
Apart from the opening music & credits, when Krypton explodes & he flies off, when he crashes & Ma & Pa find him, when Pa dies, the funeral, he leaves...well, all the way through nearly!
But when he talks to Brando for the first time in the Fortress of Solitude is the most blub provoking.
It's the only film where even the music brings a lump to my throat.
It's easily the best super-hero movie ever & one of the best movies ever full-stop.
But I'd never admit all that in a public forum :)

Yes it is the best SH movie- not swamped with special effects and silly crowd pleasing wisecracks.

It is genuinely moving and uplifting (no pun intended) - Avengers Assemble was good - but this beats it.

I do sometimes wonder if it's better to keep Pa Kent alive or dead when Clark becomes an adult.

I know that he's alive in Superman: The Animated Series as well as the 1988 Ruby-Spears produced Superman animated series and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

I'm also aware that the common reasoning behind him dying is to show and teach Clark despite his Kryptonian super powers, he just can't save everybody.

I didn't cry but I did feel sad. And it is important I think as the other poster said to show that though Superman is powerful he couldn't stop the death of his Earth father. I will say though that with them rebooting Superman into a new movie again, I frankly hope they keep Jonathan Kent alive in it just to be different from the last 2 movies. Heck, the comics I've read don't even have Jonathan Kent dying. And that's including ones from the late 50s.

I cry, but not in that scene. This is going to sound silly but it's when they are flying together.
