I think my favorite scene in the film is the one where they arrive and George is shocked to see that Doris is pregnant. Alda is particularly funny in this scene as he tries to curb his sexual appetite since Doris is in no condition to have sex and even though you know from the beginning of the scene that he is probably going to end up delivering her baby, it's enjoyable watching Alda's panic as to what to do. I always wondered if Doris ever shared with that child when and where he/she was born.

That was one of my favorite parts and it's funny that she kinda named the baby after him.

aha...

The community theatre I work with is about to put this on as a dinner show. It opens in a couple of weeks. I had auditioned for the part of Doris, but none of the guys who auditioned were close to me in age. SO they went with the older lady in order to match her up with the older man. Oh well. It should still be a great show... even if I'm not the STAR

It's okay... better luck next time...
I went and saw the show this evening -- it was GREAT! Very funny! PLus, the sound-guy missed a phone cue... Doris (tired of waiting) made a sort of "ringing" noise, picked up the phone, and THEN it rang! She just looked at the phone like, "Well, that figures!" and then George took the phone and banged on the headboard a couple of times like it was defective. The audience was Rolling !!! It was so funny!

That's funny...don't you hate it when you're onstage and you're at the mercy of props and sound effects that don't happen the way they're supposed to?

This is one of my favorite scenes as well. I cry every time I watch the last few minutes of this scene, from the point where Doris says, "George, I'm scared!", to the end where he takes control and reassures her that everything will be ok. For a few minutes, Loveable George stops just thinking about himself and steps up to the plate. So touching.

I have to agree, in spite of that being the least convincing depiction of labor I have ever seen in a movie. The way George pulls his panicky self together for her, when he realizes he absolutely must, is truly wonderful.
