The concept itself seemed to written, and the movie came off like a movie that used to be a play.

Once I get over that, the movie is pretty good, with the characters going through the years the way you would expect, following the trends in style and phylosophy, but there's always that feeling of being so staged.

I agree completely. This works better as a play than a film because most of the scenes take place in one room. It does seem very stagey at first, but once I got to know the characters, I didn't mind. I would love to see Ellen Burstyn and Alan Alda perform this on stage, but without a chance to do that, I'm happy to settle for the film. This is a very good movie, but an excellent play.

Maybe they could start where they movie left off and continue to the present day. But as I recall, their characters were quite a bit older than the actors were when the movie ended, so they're be really old in 2009: "You remind me of someone I used to know, but I have no idea who ..."
