Scene with George playing piano

I can't find any music credit except for the opening/closing song.
Two questions re: the scene when Doris shows up pregnant:

1) Was Alan Alda really playing the piano for that scene?

2) What was the name of the piece he was supposed to be playing?
It sounds familiar, but I just can't place it.

I'm not sure if he is a pianist; I am unable to find any reference as to whether he studied piano. If I ever do I'll update this comment.

His hands are not shown in the sequence, but his arm movements are and I didn't think he did an accurate portrayal of what he was supposed to be playing; and, indeed it takes a very good pianist to play Chopin's Revolutionary etude (this answers your second question).

Thus my educated guess is that the piano was dubbed. Just a pity it doesn't look like I can be proved right or wrong.

Thanks for the reply, melnar1.

Many (many) years ago, someone told me that he had done his own piano playing for this film and for "Mephisto Waltz" (1971).

Alas; I, too, have found nothing to corroborate, confirm, deny, confuse, or defuse this point. If ever I do find anything, I'll post another entry.
