Firing the chief
Any idea if he was rehired after the mayor and everyone else realized he was right about the shark all along?

shareI think he was. In Jaws the revenge there was a picture of him up at the police station so I'm assuming they realized their differences.
shareI think he was probably rehired and maybe a "hero" plaque was erected in his honor in a park or on Main Street.
However, after the nasty treatment he received, maybe Brody just quit "the force" and became a private detective or the CEO of a security firm. After all, Brody had taken an incredible amount of crap from his "neighbors and friends" - and taken it twice!
Sure, in The Revenge there's a (way too large, imo) photo of Brody in the office, and Brody's and Ellen's kid Sean is now the chief of police. But that doesn't preclude Brody having walked away earlier. His office photo might just be Polly's and Sean's (and, in spirit, Ellen's) way of remembering "The Chief", even if he did quit after the mean treatment he received in Jaws and Jaws 2.

I tend to think that the ungrateful town would have him fired anyway and might even have him arrested for wrecking the police boat (when he was no longer Chief) and destroying the power line.
shareHe got rehired, how could he not? After the kids came back and sang his praises about saving them from the shark, they would have had to. Marge's parents were probably very influential. And the water skiing girl was from an old rich islander family. They made sure he was reinstated. I've given it way too much thought!
I think we've got another shark problem.
I believe the Council knew all along what they were looking at, especially Len Peterson. It was obvious that was a shark in the photo, they just didn't want to agree with him. He then became the fall guy, but we will never know if he got re-hired or not. I say he did; because Hendricks to me still seemed green to be promoted to Chief. What do U all think?

Considering the fact that Mayor Vaughn voted against firing Brody, he was probably the first person to re-hire him.

shareAaaah interesting. Thanks
I guess in the first film, the municipality wasn't really fleshed out and the mayor alone was the face of antagonism toward Brody. That actually adds something to the second film.
I couldn't believe when I read his filmography that he played a toilet (no joke) in According to Jim
Martin “Two Sharks” Brody
shareIf you fire him, he can tell the story to as much as he wants to whomever he wants, and thus destroy Amity's tourist business once and for all.
If you re-hire him and properly laude him for his service and bravery, then you can limit how much he talks about what happened, and you have more ability to control the narrative.
