The original movies 1-8 never mentioned a wife or family, he may or may not have had one, we'll never know. He certainly didn't during the events of those films as they were never mentioned or seen onscreen.

We see a car parked in front of a small, closed-down gas
station/diner by the side of the highway. CAMERA SLOWLY
TRACKS over to a phone booth. Loomis is inside on the
telephone.
LOOMIS
(into telephone)
No, not since Thursday.
(pause)
Yes, yes I'm all right. Stop
worrying. After this I'll sleep
for a week, two weeks...
(pause)
I said I'm all right. Believe me.
I'll be home soon. Yes I do. Very
much. I just... have to stop
him...
CONTINUED:
LOOMIS(cont'd)
(pause)
Of course it's possible, but I know
him. And when he gets there, God
help us.
(pause)
Right, right, I'll call you. Me
too. Goodbye.
Loomis hangs up the phone and steps out of the booth. He
looks up the highway.
42B LOOMIS' POV -- HIGHWAY 42B
The highway disappears off into the distance. There is an
old weather-beaten sign that reads:
HADDONFIELD 73 MILES
Let me guess, the excerpt from the book written by Curtis Richards. Which is not from the script written by John Carpenter or approved by Carpenter, which also, I might add also added the "celtic curse" thing long before II was even thought of.
Hate to break it to you, but 1/ That wasn't in the script or the movie. 2. It wasn't even Carpenter's idea. I was Curtis Richards who added his own content to fill the pages. 2-4 books did the same thing and they are not canon to the franchise as movies. Neither are the comics, which had Laurie in the Myers mask after the events of H20 when she was clearly institutionalized after Resurrection.
So I don't consider someone else's book to be relevant to Carpenter's writings or visions of the character.
In the script, and the movie, his phone call is to the Haddonfield police. Not to family. Last but not least, it's so vague it could be anyone from a brother, sister, parent, colleague, etc. No I love you, no name, no kiss the kids for me, nothing. Loomis obviously wasn't alone in the universe, he had to have someone and did you ever see a ring on his finger? No.
So again, one last time, in the 6 *films* he was in did we ever *see* or hear about family? NEVER.

I knew that Carpenter had given Loomis background character material but Pleasence asked him to take it out. I didn't know there was a shooting script floating around. Cheers
