I never knew Loomis was married...
Surprising his wife was never seen in the series...

The original movies 1-8 never mentioned a wife or family, he may or may not have had one, we'll never know. He certainly didn't during the events of those films as they were never mentioned or seen onscreen.

EXT. GAS STATION -- HIGHWAY -- DAY 41A
We see a car parked in front of a small, closed-down gas
station/diner by the side of the highway. CAMERA SLOWLY
TRACKS over to a phone booth. Loomis is inside on the
telephone.
LOOMIS
(into telephone)
No, not since Thursday.
(pause)
Yes, yes I'm all right. Stop
worrying. After this I'll sleep
for a week, two weeks...
(pause)
I said I'm all right. Believe me.
I'll be home soon. Yes I do. Very
much. I just... have to stop
him...
CONTINUED:
LOOMIS(cont'd)
(pause)
Of course it's possible, but I know
him. And when he gets there, God
help us.
(pause)
Right, right, I'll call you. Me
too. Goodbye.
Loomis hangs up the phone and steps out of the booth. He
looks up the highway.
42B LOOMIS' POV -- HIGHWAY 42B
The highway disappears off into the distance. There is an
old weather-beaten sign that reads:
HADDONFIELD 73 MILES
Let me guess, the excerpt from the book written by Curtis Richards. Which is not from the script written by John Carpenter or approved by Carpenter, which also, I might add also added the "celtic curse" thing long before II was even thought of.
Hate to break it to you, but 1/ That wasn't in the script or the movie. 2. It wasn't even Carpenter's idea. I was Curtis Richards who added his own content to fill the pages. 2-4 books did the same thing and they are not canon to the franchise as movies. Neither are the comics, which had Laurie in the Myers mask after the events of H20 when she was clearly institutionalized after Resurrection.
So I don't consider someone else's book to be relevant to Carpenter's writings or visions of the character.
In the script, and the movie, his phone call is to the Haddonfield police. Not to family. Last but not least, it's so vague it could be anyone from a brother, sister, parent, colleague, etc. No I love you, no name, no kiss the kids for me, nothing. Loomis obviously wasn't alone in the universe, he had to have someone and did you ever see a ring on his finger? No.
So again, one last time, in the 6 *films* he was in did we ever *see* or hear about family? NEVER.
End of discussion.

HALLOWEEN
a screenplay
by
John Carpenter
and
Debra Hill
Ha, ha. Well done.
I knew that Carpenter had given Loomis background character material but Pleasence asked him to take it out. I didn't know there was a shooting script floating around. Cheers
Loomis personal life was never addressed in all 8 Halloween films. Unless its with Marion Chambers who took care of Loomis throughout the years in the H2O timeline..
shareFinally...a voice of reason. My point exactly. If it ain't in the movies, the writers obviously didn't have plans for it. And to be in more depth...where were they when Loomis got blown to hell at the end of II, or the beginning of 4. Why live alone in the countryside in 6 after his stroke in 5 and as Verdugo mentioned, H20's clear statement that Marion took care of Loomis after II, Where was his family then? If he did indeed call them on Oct. 31, 1978 to "check in" they surely wouldn't have abandoned him for no reason after almost dying in a fiery explosion. That makes no sense. So no, Loomis never had a family, never saw, never heard, never there.

It's in the script, he has a girl in his life, unless he was calling his dog ...Enough said...

Screenplays don't count for canon. Only finished films. The proper subject line of this thread should be, "I didn't know at one point Loomis was going to be married."
shareSo does that mean Jason's father in Jason Lives doesn't exist cos it wasn't filmed...Oddly ever since the script, the reference Elias Voorhees is mention in books, documentaries or Jason biopics on websites...

If it's not depicted in a finished film, it's not film canon.
shareYou're mixing things up. Loomis was never intended to have a family since they never filmed that scene and it was never mentioned in any of the 6 films he was in. I'm not counting the remake and sequel.
Unless it was an Immaculate Conception, Jason was always going to have a father. There's no way around that. Whether or not he is mentioned, he obviously existed. So they're not the same circumstance.
Jason cannot exist without a mother or a father unless the circumstance above occurred, which it didn't. It is perfectly possible for Loomis not the have a wife or children. This isn't Happy Days where the son goes to the attic never to return. Even an ex-wife and children would be involved in their father's life. Given they weren't there when Loomis was burned alive, or when he had his stroke, they did not exist in film canon. You can'[t just create a family and then drop them. Fans would notice this.

Its not like we would see her again. It was better that idea was dropped.
shareOr his life insurence agent.
shareNot that this counts for anything, but.......
In the Rob Zombie version, Loomis says something to Michael along the lines of "Michael I've known you for 15 years. That's twice as long as I knew my second ex-wife."
No matter what you think of those movies, I love lines like that because it showed that Loomis did have a normal life away from Michael, however Michael became such an obsession for him that he sacrificed everything else in his life.
