Are there scenes that they cut out?

I have been watching this movie for as long as I can remember. One day, several years ago, my father was watching on TV. This had scenes that I'd never seen before and have never seen since. I wondered if anybody knows what I'm talking about because I see nothing about deleted scenes for the movie. I had hoped that they would include some deleted scenes with it, but my copy was cheap and didn't have any bonus features. If they have a version with bonus features I would like to buy that.

I'd love to see deleted scenes if there are any, but I've never seen any included in TV broadcasts or heard of any. In fact the times I've seen it on broadcast TV they usually hack it down so much to put in more commercials it almost feels like a different movie. I saw one TV version where they cut out both the Dudley Moore apartment scene and the scenes with the Bible Salesman. So when Dudley Moore appears at the end it makes no sense and there's no real payoff to the "Beware of the Dwarf" line. Terrible.

I've always assumed they shot a version of the scene with Stella and Gloria talking in the park that used the "F" word but used the tamer version to get the PG rating. The line sounds better and makes more sense if Stella says "Nobody *beep* with Stella unless Stella wants to be *beep*

reply

Okay, it censored my post and I didn't even spell out the words. Insert the "F" word where it says *beep* above.

They usually dub it to "Nobody messes with Stella, unless Stella wants to be messed!"

"You made me miss!I've never missed that board before".

Yes, I know that. But the line would make more sense if Stella used the "F" word. I just said I imagined they filmed it that way but didn't use it in order to get the PG rating.

Yes, and it's a bummer they didn't release them. I don't remember a lot of them, just that on network TV there's more to the scene with Mrs. Caswell outside the house, before she says "Is he that football player that wears the pantyhouse on telvision?" It's a longer scene and there's another gag in there and I think you even saw Turk, but it's been so long I can't remember...

Yes, I saw it on regular TV and I was beginning to think I was nuts. At least there is a thread of hope that it really was there. I don't remember what the scenes were, I know there was one in the police station that had to do with when he was in watching the slides of Rumplestisken-excuse me Stiltskin- and the Albino and Scottie. I would love to see it again, it's just I can't figure out why they don't put it on a special release. They do it all the time to sucker us into buying a movie again that we already own. And in this case I would do it too!

I just ran across an old TV copy from the early 8o's on an old VHS. You are correct. There is at least 2 scenes not in the theatrical version that I noticed. a rather length scene takes place right after Gloria stays at Tony's. Tony gets a call & tells Gloria they have a lead & he's going to take her home. The theatrical cuts to Tony arriving at the beach. I the TV version we see Tony drop off Gloria at her place. When they arrive Mr. Hennessy & his snake are in Gloria's working on the fireplace. The scene runs about 3 minutes. another brief scene only in the TV version has Tony talking to another cop at his desk before he goes into the hall & find Stanley Tibbets with the towel on his head.

Theatrical running time 116 minutes
TV version running time 119 minutes

I know some bits were cut for TV too so Not sure if any other scenes were added but it's possible.

I have a copy from the TCM broadcast of some years back the "F" word is not used at all only sort of implied during the scrabble game.

I saw the pilot for the short lived TV series why did they change the male lead's name?

I do remember a couple of scenes in the TV version that weren't in the theatrical cut, but only vaguely. I remember a scene after Tony and his partner leave Gloria's for the first time, and she and Mr. Hennessey are in the living room. He's changing the lock and she says, "Hmm, that was a nice policeman, but I don't think he believed me."

There were also a couple of other extended scenes. I think one involving Miss Cazwell after she says the line about the "football player who wears pantyhose on television."
