'Foul Play' filming locations

I was hoping that whoever posted the filming locations for 'Foul Play' would read this. The level of detail is truly amazing. As a fun project, I also tried to find out certain locations. It took me forever to find out that the Venus Massage Parlor was filmed at the Pawtrero Hill Feed Store. At the time of May 2006, this location was not listed under filming locations on IMDB. I had to go by the address shown on the building, "199" and looking at a San Francisco map and figuring out the proper topography!

This was left out of the IMDB listing. The exteriors of Gloria's workplace at Sarah B. Cooper Public Library was filmed on 2245 Jones St. @ Lombard. (This was really the Sarah B. Cooper Elementary School building at the time. It's since been torn down and replaced by Yick Wo Alternative Elementary School.)

The Archbishop's Mansion in the film is not S.F.'s actual Archbishop's Mansion, nor is it located on the top of Twin Peaks. I don't know the actual location, but I believe it's in Southern California. Apparently, you can rent the Tudor-style mansion filming location for your own movie from www.planitlocations.com and request property ID 36Tudor: http://www.24-7locations.com/36tudor/?resultpage=8&cat=Mansions.

Thanks for the research, have to check them out! I was curious about the theater too--I just got a bigass TV and you can now clearly see that the "Mikado" was performed somewhere else and matted in later--and there's a credit that it was performed in NY. Iiiiinteresting...movie magic! And the Nuart she goes to looks a lot like the Nuart in LA, but maybe they have one in SF too...?

No it's definately the Nuart in LA. It was filmed in LA & San Fran.

Yes, it's interesting they filmed the murder scene at the Nuart on Santa Monica Blvd. In the movie, Goldie Hawn says the film festival is playing at the Nuart on Union St. There was a theater on Union St. at the time: the Metro - since closed down from Sept. 2006. I wonder why they just didn't choose to film there.

reply

Maybe it was too expensive.

Thanks! I didn't know if i was crazy or if it really was the LA one. It's funny, I've been in that theater a dozen times but didn't notice until just now. Course I havent seen this movie in like 15 years, long before I moved to LA.

I think the NUART is LA as well. I have been there a couple of times if its not the LA Nuart then it has a twin somewhere. T

I believe the interior of the library Gloria works at is the Central Library in Pasadena, Ca. It's been renovated since the movie was filmed so it doesn't look the same as it was in the movie.

reply

has anyone figured out why they didn't do the movie theater scene IN SF and not at the Nuart in WLA?
I am not bothered by it....just curious.

Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics, even if you win, your still retarded.

Can anyone tell where is the house on the water, where Tony lived, might be located?

Where is the party taking place when Tony and Gloria first meet? Can clearly see the Golden Gate in the background.

It's at a house in Belvedere, a ritzy area on an island situated on the Tiburon Peninsula in Marin County.
