Whatever happened to comedy-thrillers?

Remember when they were all the rage for a moment in the late 70's/early 80's? Foul Play, Death Trap, Die Laughing, Sunburn. It was an interesting sub-genre. I wish someone would revive it.

Would Pineapple Express be considered one?

reply

Pineapple Express is considered more of a action comedy. I'd say A New Leaf belongs in this comedy-thriller/murder-comedy list.

reply

IKK but they don't make masterpieces like this anymore.

Elisha Cuthbert is the bomb!

Would "Spies Like Us" have been considered one ?

reply

Spies Like Us. . .Yes.
It's a delicate balance. It's hard to get both parts right (I think Pineapple express is a little over the top in both categories).
Action/ Comedies:
Beverly Hills Cops
Back to the Futures
Incredibly Un-PC comedies:
Eurotrip
Beerfest

Silver Streak (1976) is another classic in this genre.

I'm hankering to see "Trenchcoat" now...

"Date Night" has all the ingredients of a good comedy-thriller but unfortunately chose to be an action-adventure. Thanks for all the suggestions. I've added "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "A New Leaf" to my Netflix queue, although the latter isn't available yet.

comic thrillers are pure 80s movies. their childish and silly. don't get me wrong, i love the naked gun and movies like it, but they're not geared toward adults.

i'm sure there are some out there, but me being at my age now, not watching nick, probably won't ever see a commercial for one.

Yup, great time if you were white and didn't give a *beep*, not so much otherwise.
