'Foul Play' vs. 'Fletch'

I loved the "Fletch" movies a lot, and on Netflix instant play, it recommended this, which I guess makes sense since this is a Chevy Chase cop-comedy film.

I liked "Fletch" more because it was more of a comedy and Chevy Chase was much more of a main star in that film whereas in "Foul Play", it's more of a Goldie Hawn film starring Chevy Chase.

What do you think? Also, are there other movies like this? You know, funny action/crime type movies. Some people had recommended "Death Trap", "Die Laughing", "Sunburn", and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" but what are some others?

I prefer Fletch to this film though I like both. But this film has its serious flaws but it's still fun.

If you want another good comedy/thriller look no furhter than SILVER STREAK which was written by the same man (Colin Higgins) who wrote and directed this movie.

Foul Play was very entertainment, Fletch was boring for me.

Fletch by far. There were actually very few scenes in Foul Play that truly worked, either comedically or dramatically, and thereĀ“s always this sense of middle-of-the-road cuteness to the entire thing. All the plot elements, ESPECIALLY the totally redundant third rate romance Hawn & Chase engaged in, felt awful tired and sort of formulaic. Silver Streak seemed much more fresh & inspired as well.

If you want a replay of Goldie + Chevy watch Seems Like Old Times (1980). More comedy than Foul Play.

The Brink's Job (1978)

What's Up Doc? (1972)

Harry in your Pocket (1973)

Silver Streak (1976)

Heaven Can Wait (1978)

I prefer Foul Play. Seems Like old Times, also with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase, is funnier though i think. Bird on a Wire, with goldie hawn and mel gibson, is also good.

I prefer Foul Play. I think its got a cute zaniness to it that still appeals to me. Chase was not a star yet so his performance felt a bit more real to me.

Fletch is just Chevy Chase doing his schtick ("I'm smarter than everyone else and I'll play stupid to point out how stupid you are for not noticing I'm playing stupid."). I've also read the books and thought the movie converted the character too much to allow Chevy to just be Chevy. The movies were fun and I enjoyed them, but a ton of potential was lost from the source material
