a little bit slow....but a moving movie and great soundtrack.

I saw it today for the 1st time myself. It's now one of my all time favorite movies!! I wish I could work at a radio station like this. There'd never be a dull moment. Too bad radio is corporate to the max nowadays :( This needs a new dvd release pronto!!

Those kind of stations don't exist anymore, and were a dying breed at the time, the whole point of the movie. But the film does seem to contradict itself, as the DJs and staff are against a change to more commercial practices, but they get all excited about a concert featuring some of the most commercial rock artists of the 1970s: Linda Rondstadt, Jimmy Buffet, etc.

Yes, but the whole point of the concert was that QSKY broadcast it live for no fees at all while the rival station, KLAX sponsored it. QSKY could have made a killing selling time to its advertisers, but Jeff wanted to do it free for his audience. This was a major thing back then. Unfortunately, Jeff Dugan was a dying breed like his station. Caring about what your audience wants to that extent is not commercially feasible anymore unless you're on a nationally syndicated show; and then its only a guideline.

Honest-to-goodness truth: when this movie came out, there were about three radio stations in Chicago that were undergoing format changes. Not too many of them for the better.

Do you really think that Buffett (with 2 "T"s) was commercial in 1978??
Really?
