I agree with you. They could have dragged this movie to 6 hours without any effort at all. How about adding a birthday party scene for 20 minutes. Then add a funeral scene for 20 minutes. Then take them to hunt more deers for 20 minutes. Oh someone got pregnant, take her to hospital and show all the tension for 30 minutes. Go back to bar, drink beer and then more deer hunting....

You can add scenes in this movie left and right without any problem because there is no real story. They are showing as if the only thing they did in Vietnam was play Russian Roulette and scream "Mau".

A simple advice - do not waste 3 hours of your life. If you want to watch a Vietnam war movie, then go watch Apocalypse Now.

Ur right this movie sucks. I watched it cause everyone is always raving about it , and I like war movies, but between the scenes where DeNiro i s chasing the VC next to pine trees or when they sing God Bless America at the, I realized the movie sucked. Plus it cost Apocalypse Now (the greatest war film of all time ) the best pic oscar. Makes it even worse. Oh we'll. the next thing Cimmino did was Heavens Gate. So that was probably Gods way of punishing him.

Actually, Apocalypse Now lost the Oscar to Kramer vs Kramer the following year. Or are you saying they just didn't want to award two Vietnam flicks consecutively?
