I know it is important to the overall purpose of the film but the first hour was simply far too long. I feel like they could of got there point across in half the time, also their time at war seemed rushed. there was more long periods of dullness later on in the film as well.

shareWhich is insane? There isn't a boring moment in this film. If you are too young to remember Vietnam, or are 15 years old, perhaps this movie isn't for you.
The beautiful opening sequences of this film, the wedding, the reception and the hunting episode are about the men's culture, their lives. It's what was lost. If we don't see how good their lives were, we can't understand the magnitude of their loss.
You must be an Adam Sandler fan.....nothing boring about The Deer Hunter.
