so nick was angerlas babies farther...

I was always wondering about that until it was confirmed on the directors commentary.

What a bastard. Angerla as well.

Why did Steven get married to her then go back to her after that.

reply

No she was pregnant by a other man. Not Steve's brother. Steven thought the baby was his and he loved her none the less so he married her.

reply

That was a original script point

reply

I just watched it last night... I coulda swore after the wedding Stevie said something like "I stayed pure" - implying he hadn't had sex at all with her yet. It was just as they sauntered out of the venue and got into the car, before De Niro strips down and chases them.

reply

Yes, I just watched it last night. After they leave the hall and are getting into the car, Steven says to Nick

I never even did it with Angela. That's my one big secret.
and Nick says: That's fine, don't worry about it.

So Steven definitely knew it wasn't his baby, but was willing to marry her anyway. If Nick was the father, that definitely puts a different spin on the movie, especially with him being the Best Man at the wedding.

It's never made any sense to me that Nick was the father of Angela's baby - despite of what the director or commentary says. If he was so in love with Linda why would he be cheating on her with Angela. Seems very out of character. I think it's more likely that Stan or Axel was the baby-daddy. Stan was whispering to Michael on the way out of the wedding hall ---"you didn't know that about Angela, did you?"

Nick sent Angela money because he knew Steven was disabled. That's the only reason.

reply

Nick was the father. That is why he kept sending money to Steven. Steven even said he had not slept with Angela yet.....

reply

Nick was definitely the father of Angela's baby--they even make a point of the child having bright blond hair at the end. Nick loved Linda; doesn't mean he didn't screw around on her.

reply

Three things. After the reception, Stan had said something cryptically to Michael about "knowing something about Angela". And, while leaving Nick's graveside at the funeral, was walking Angela away from the casket as if SHE, not Linda (Meryl Streep), was the widow (Angela was the last one in the shot)...And her blonde kid was (what could've been, anyway) a giveaway too.

reply

Wait, has this been confirmed somewhere? I've heard a cple mentions of director commentary but was this "original script" stuff or the actual final cut? I never assumed Nick had anything to do with Angela apart from her marrying his friend. I'd love some proof of this if it's available.
