Watching it now for probably the tenth time. I just love this movie, it's a perfect movie in every way. I can even appreciate the wedding scene more now. I would put this as my favorite war movie along with Apocalypse Now, I might even give Deer Hunter the edge. Perfectly acted, especially by DeNiro and Walken. I have posted before how I believe it's DeNiro's best role and still believe it. It's definitely in my top 10-15 movies of all time.

shareThis was only the 2nd time I saw this movie. When it came out, I was 13, so I didn't quite understand everything I was watching. Seeing it now that I'm 51, I think it answers a question or two for me. You see, I was a Veteran Service Officer for a number of years because I had a burning desire to help Veterans get their benefits through the VA. I read a number of stressor letters of Veterans that were over there. I never read anything as disturbing as anything within this movie. But watching this movie put a burden on my heart for Veterans way back then. I think the movie "The Best Years Of Our Lives", though MUCH tamer, also helped. :)
