Where was John Savage's Oscar nomination?

I am revisiting this film after four months and, yep, it's as emotionally challenging as I thought. But, one question. Where was the academy when they were awarding noms? John Savage's fear in the swamps became my fear. I was afraid for the actor. His fear upon the sound of the gun cracking was almost too much to bear.

Savage was a real cutie-pie and I had a big crush on him when I saw him in HAIR-79'. He wasn't afraid to show his vulnerable sensitive side and his emotion was born out of the moment and real. He just needed to be hugged and loved.

I haven't seen Maria's Lovers Nan. I recall seeing it around on vhs, but it never appealed to me. I really like some of the director's other films, like Shy People-87'.

John Savage was cute and I particularly like him in "Inside Moves", where he plays a survivor from attempted suicide. It was a deeply sweet movie.

Yeah, his performance is the one that stands out the most amongst a gallery of very strong ones. Unvarnished, sensitive, and haunting work.
