Question

** SPOILER **

Okay, I just saw the edited version, and am a little confused. Was it a cult? What the heck where the people worshipping... corn?? Or the earth? What did the Widow mean when she said the baby was "prophecized"?

Any insight is appreciated. Interesting stuff.

To answer your question simply, it turned out the town was a matriarchal society which typically worshipped the Earth Mother....the women of the town were actually the important members of the social structure; men were there only to procreate and offer as sacrifice every four years....

hope that helped!

Cool, thanks. What about the prophecy that the Widow mentioned? Was that discussed at all in the longer version? It seemed like a fairly cryptic comment.

I haven't seen this movie but sounds the writers really altered it from the book's author's version. In the book, men weren't there only to procreate, shoot no women were even allowed in the town's only tavern! And the sacrifice was every 7 yrs, not 4. And the cast credits list a couple characters that weren't in the book, apparently invented or amalgamated for the movie, plus I see ommisions of characters that were in the book but apparently not in the movie. I hate it when the movie can't be adapted just as is from the book.

If wishes & buts were clusters of nuts we'd all have a bowl of granola!
