My Friend Gary Lived near where they made the film..

Back in the late 1970's they made this film in the state of Ohio..

I can't remember the town, sorry, but if you look at the houses they have signs that say "Lake County Historical Society". So they are in that vicinity.

At the time Gary was living in that part of the state and was working at a flower shop. Someone from the movie company ordered flowers for Bette Davis, and Gary somehow from that sale of flowers got her picture & autograph!! He showed it to me and i was impressed!!!

He told me at the time that Bette Davis was not too chummy with the cast, that she would stay in her trailer or whatever, until it was time for her filming.

However, she was really nice to give him a wonderful autograph!!

The movie was supposed to take place in a hamlet in South Windsor CT, but I have never seen South Windsor look like that!!! I live near South Windsor and it's a nice historical town, but doesn't look like the movie. That's Hollywood, of course!!

Anyway, it's been years since i have seen this movie. I couln't believe the ending "make the corn" make the corn"
John Calvin was so good looking, and he didn't deserve what he got!!! Eek!!!

Thanks for sharing your story Doll. I don't know much about Bette Davis, but maybe she wasn't friendly to the cast b/c she was playing a mysterious/evil role & wanted to stay in character(?) -In what ways is South Windsor, CT different from the movie site in Ohio? -And I agree John Calvin as Justin was very handsome & a good natured character. That's why his wife Sophie couldn't go through w/the sacrifice ceremony, she loved him too much. -Since no one has commented on my casting ideas if ever a re-make were made, could you tell me what you think? Thanks:)

This movie, though being listed as filmed in Kingsville, Ohio, was actually filmed in Mentor, Ohio, which is in Lake County. I grew up there, and my parents owned a bar there that was used in the filming. Mentor is on Lake Erie about 25 miles East of Cleveland.

The place it was filmed was in Kingsville Ohio in Ashtabula County. Also I believe some scenes were filmed in Harpersfield Ohio. The cemetary and church were in Kingsville.

Most of it was actually Austinburg, ohio, also in Ashtabula County. That is my home town I knew the family that lived in the big white farm house. The Constantine's house is also located in Austinburg. The park where they had the festival was directly accross from my house which was not shown however my friends houes along my street where shown. A friend's father played the role of the doctor.

They also filmed in Kirtland, Ohio. That's in Lake County, NorthEastern Ohio. Near the intersection of Route 306 and Route 615. I passed the location daily on my way to school. Unfortunately, no celebrity sightings! That intersection has changed drastically in the past few years.

I'll do you one better. I lived in the big manor house featured in this film. It was the sophomore dorm of my prep school, in Austinburg, OH.
