Arthur Carlson: Passed away a few years ago, the radio station is stilled owned by the Carlson family and it is now managed by Arthur Jr. Andy Travis: Is the CEO of Serius/XM radio. Jennifer Marlow: Is happily married to an old rich guy. Herb Tarlek:(I have several theories) He got a divorce from his wife and now either owns a shag carpet store, or is a used car salesman or is in charge of a very sleazy dating web site, or owns a strip club, or a porn site or sales white shoes and belts with the awful 1970's leisure suits. Bailey Quarters: Married a modest man and they live a quit life together. Les Nessman: Still works at the station and is getting ready to retire. He never married. Venus Flytrap: Is stilled married to his wife, Elaine Parker, and they have 4 kids. He is in management for Serius/XM radio. Dr. Johnny Fever: In the 1980's was an extra in several of the Cheech and Chong movies, after that he disappeared although there are rumors that he is in a Hippie commune or an Insane asylum.
I love this post and I think you're spot-on with most of these. I especially love the "mystery" of Fever's outcome. The only one I might disagree with would be Bailey. I more see her as being a political activist or maybe going to law school or something. I definitely don't see her as living a quiet life. I think the whole point of her character was finding her voice.
I can only conclude I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate.
Now that I thought about it crazyivanova you are probably right. I can also see Herb Tarlek running for office and being like a sleazy Donald Trump. :-)
I agree (that I am probably right - Just Kidding! ) that Herb could really go either way. He really is a sort-of wild card in this speculation. Really sad to think poor Les never found true love though
I can only conclude I'm paying off karma at a vastly accelerated rate.
Maybe Johnny is still coming back to the station periodically like he did in the New WKRP just when he needs money. He might be Les' roommate now.
I guess in the New WKRP show back in 1991, it stated that Bailey had become mayor of Ann Arbor, MI. But that's not necessarily cannon for the old WKRP I guess. But I could maybe see her coming back and becoming radio executive like she had hoped to do before. Just maybe a more progressive minded executive.
Your take on Herb's current life is hilarious. I like the white shoes and belts idea.
I've forgotten about Bailey's job in the new WKRP, maybe, like I suggested before, Herb could be running for some kind of office as a sleazy Donald Trump, and Bailey could be running against him. Thank you, Herb is pretty easy to figure out what his life could be like now days. Yes, I can see Johnny coming back to WKRP, but Les had that big dog, I do not know if he could crash at Les's house. :-)
I would love to see Bailey and Herb running against each other! They occasionally had some tense but fun altercations. So that would be an interesting race.
Actually I would love to see Johnny dealing with a big dog. Les is probably the only person would take him in. Although just like Les told Herb once----they'd probably have to share one bed or sofa bed or something like that.
Arthur Carlson: Like you said, he passed away and now Arthur Jr. runs the station, and takes care of his mother. Andy Travis: He's retired but teaches at a local college about business management. Jennifer Marlowe: She became Queen of Monaco, like Grace Kelly. Herb Tarlek: Retired and was incarcerated in the Shady Hills Rest Home by his kids. Broke out and was arrested by Monaco police. Bailey Quarters: Left for Chicago and became a Program Director, and then returned to be a Program Director at WKRP. Retired, and is married with three kids. Les Nessman: Legendary winner of the Buckeye Newshawk Award still works at WKRP and has become a local celebrity in the same vein as Paul Harvey, only weirder. Venus Flytrap: Returned to teaching after ten more years as a DJ. Happily married and lives in New Orleans. Dr. Johnny Fever: Legends abound about the great doctor, including one where he was abducted by aliens, and is currently living on another planet.
Andy Travis moved on to larger markets and is now the GM and PD at a top-40 station in Chicago. In 2012 he also appeared on Dancing with the Stars, placing in second.
Arthur Carlson eventually rested control of the station from his mother, but indeed saw the wave of the future, turning it into an all talk and news station. He is now retired and lives in (where else?), Florida, although summers in Cincinnati where he still owns a seafood restaurant named "Static Fish".
Johnny Fever and Jennifer Marlow married (yup!) and now run a small FM station playing whatever they want in northern California. They supplement their income with a vitamin and health food store. They also continue to receive royalties on a television commercial Jennifer appeared in and on something Johnny invented and patented in the 1980s - the coffee bag.
Venus Flytrap stayed on at WKRP and had his own talk show for many years called "Fly-Clap-Trap". He left in 2010, though when he was offered the PD position at a large station in Cleveland. He has also become an amateur paleontologist and regularly takes breaks to go on digs in the Southwest.
Herb Tarlek is still working at WKRP and has in fact become one of the top ad-men in the mid-west. He still wears out-of-date stuff, but now stuff from the 1980s. Although he plans on retiring in the next couple years and moving to Arizona, where he hopes to open a Taco Bell Franchise.
Les Nessman left to live in Europe, when he met a Scandinavian woman 15 years his senior with whom he fell in love. He remains there and is retired after a second career in Canary breeding.
Bailey Quarters did marry a humble man, but is now the Governor of Kentucky. However her greatest fame came when she was a recently ousted congresswoman from that state and she and her husband were lost at sea for 50 days. When they were finally found, though it turned out they had simply sailed in the wrong direction and decided to vacation in a very remote part of Tahiti, all the while never reading the news of their own disappearance.
...and if you disagree (or agree) with any of these, you're silly. Its conjecture and all in fun, that's all. :)
