Maxine Daniels and Helen Smart

Wonder why so many dislikes this character.....I allways found her interesting, her relationship with her stupid family which treated her horribly.....Her character felt real to me, and the actress also gets a bad rap, for being a bad actress, I never saw that, i thought her acting was great, and her ending was so sad and horrible.....Another character, which is disliked by some fans are Helen Smart, some was annoyed by her french accent and so on which she put on from time to time, I found her character to be great fun and comical relief.....

I was just coming here to start an "I dislike Maxine" thread. I think the actresses performance is actually pretty spot on. She provided one of the shows best mid series examples of an 80's Aussie 'bogan' sheila. The problem is the way she is written - shrill and impulsive. She's easy to manipulate and also lacking will-power.

And yet she is often seen acting self-righteously towards others, and is quick to judge a persons moral behavior if she feels superior to them. Hate her!

The lady who played Helen Smart also played Lou's wife (Cheryl) in Neighbours in the 90s and used to put on the same French accent lol she must've incorporated that into both characters and the Grundy's liked it? It used to annoy me so much in Neighbours but then I grew to like it. She has a good screen presence and was missed from both shows when she left.

I think both were great characters. I much preferred Maxine being paired with Lizzie than Doreen. Lizzie and Maxine had good chemistry and were a lot more fun together.
