I totally agree. This was the most gripping, most thought-provoking mini-series I've ever seen (though "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" come close). When are they going to release it on DVD? Most people don't even know this mini-series exists, yet it was one of the most important pieces dealing with the Nazi Holocaust ever made. Everyone is always talking about "Schindler's List." A powerful film, yes, but I truly believe that "Holocaust" was an even better look at the Nazi Holocaust because it covered everything that occurred in that 12 years of horror and bloodshed. But leave it to the DVD producers to constantly spew juvenile crap like "Southpark" and "The Simpsons," while disregarding a masterpiece such as this.

I agree with you - this is better, and to me, more realistic, than "Schindler's List." It has haunted my memory for 28 years! I will never forget the impact it made on me! I am going to try to get my own copy of it, even if only to rent it from Netflix.

Wanda, Can you find Holocaust on NetFlix? I searched my Blockbuster Total Access and they don't seem to carry it. I noticed a special edition release on Amazon.com so surely it is floating around on DVD Region 1 somewhere??

this is a DVD+R, so you have to have a DVD player that plays DVD+Rs. fortunately, i do own one! :)

Yeah, but .. that's a bootleg. I'd rather go for the French box set. It is uncut and undubbed so don't worry, you only have to cope with the cover going HOLOCAUSTE (tongue in cheek, no offense to the French :)
mediadis.com has it for 46 Euro and will ship it for an extra 4 across most of Europe or 6 extra to North America. A little bit more pricey but at least the real deal.
Or at least i hope so because i just ordered a copy from them two minutes ago. If they're bogus i will tell you in a few days.

what Region encoding is this? the site doesn't say. i can find a Holocaust DVD on Amazon but it's Region 2. to my knowledge, this has never been officially released on DVD for US audiences.

you can buy it from amazon.com - search for ' ASIN: B000GLD5XW '
but a ' Region 2 ' version is also available from other sites if you search for ' Holocaust 1978 Mini-Series 4 DVD Set ' or ' Holocaust Meryl Streep ' or ' Holocaust Merryl Streep '
I was able to buy it ' new ' from one of the auction sites for £ 28 which was a very fair price for such a rare DVD.
The picture quality is remarkable good
# please be advised that some people are selling a ' three disk set ' when the official release came out as a ' four disk set ' - I don't have clue if the three disk set is the full mini-series but to be on the safe side stick to the ' four disk set '
Holocaust has a cast list that by todays standard is outstanding - Tom Bell - Marius Goring - Ian Holm - Meryl Streep - Sam Wanamaker - James Woods etc etc
I have to admit that I really don't understand why they delete certain DVD's
as Holocaust 1978 Mini-Series is a Classic.
Note ' at least on my version ' there is no ' flash-by-flash resume '
