Torturing the Artists

The Nazis tortured Karl, Frey, and Felscher to try to force them to reveal information about their paintings and to whom they had sold them. But what about Maria Kalova? They didn't lay a hand on her and the Nazis were not exactly known for their chivalry toward women. It seems to me this aspect of the Holocaust, although unpleasant, was sugar coated. Perhaps at the time the film was made they had to do it that way whether it was realistic or not.

Good point but my best guess is since they hid the other drawings and the Nazis were never able to find them, they did not have evidence linking Maria to any involvement. The drawings the Nazis did fine could only be traced back to the three men since they were the artists.

They couldn't show her torture on television in 1978. For what it's worth, we have made great strides since then, and today violence against women in television is both prevalent, and acceptable.
