Meryl Streep's Character Missing Scene...

i remember a scene in the televised version where Meryl Streep (Inga) was sitting in a chair crying because they were shaving her head and you could see piles of hair all over the floor; along with piles of everyone's eye-glasses etc. etc. does anyone else remember this or was it from another Holocaust film? i just recently watched the new DVD release and didn't see this occur.

was it "Sophie's Choice' ?

You are thinking of 'War and Remembrance' - Jane Seymour is the woman being shaved.

In this movie, Meryl Streep's character, Inga Helms Weiss, is a German Christian married to James Wood's character, Karl Weiss who is a German Jew. While Karl was sent to a concentration camp, Inga never was. She was allowed to visit Karl by providing sexual favors to the camp kommandant.

It wasn't the camp commandant, it was a Sgt. named Muller who was a friend of the Helms family. He also attended her wedding and hated Karl, not only for being Jewish but also for marrying the woman he loved. Lusted after is more like it. Any man who would force a woman to sleep with him does not respect her, and without respect, there can be no real love.

reply

Inga was never allowed to visit Karl, only to pass him letters through sleeping with Muller. Finally realizing that Karl would never be released, she got Muller to turn her in on a trumped up charge so she would be arrested and imprisoned where Karl was. A big chance but she was willing to take it.

Could you be confusing Meryl Streep with Vanessa Redgrave? There is a film about women musicians in a concentration camp called Playing For Time. It's available on Netflix.
