The Love Boat and fantasy Island made a great pair of shows for a saturday night, but fantasy island was canceled in 1984, two years before Love boats cancelation in 1986. From 1984-1986, what did they replace Fantasy Island with in its old time slot?
ABC had a hard time getting a series to succeed in that time slot for a while. Initially, when "Fantasy Island" went off the air, a show called "Finder of Lost Loves" took over its time slot. It had a fairly similar format in that it was an anthology series telling more than one story per episode. It was about a guy who ran an agency that tried to reunite lost loved ones or locate long-lost old flames. It lasted only a year. For the 1985-86 season -- "Love Boat"'s last -- "Love Boat" was moved into "Fantasy Island"'s time slot, and a show called "Lime Street" took over "LB"'s hour. Remember Samantha Smith, the girl who wrote a letter to Yuri Andropov? She was one of the co-stars -- till she and her dad were killed in a plane crash in August 1985 on their way home to Maine. That was the sad end of that show. After "Love Boat"'s cancellation, "Fantasy Island"'s time slot was occupied for the next three years by "Spenser: For Hire".
