This FI episode scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. It was about an adult woman who had unresolved issues with her childhood, and so in her 'fantasy' she regressed to sleeping in her childhood bedroom again. She had a whole ton of stuffed animals and toys around on shelves and dressers. Her bedroom caught on fire, and all of the toys/animals started to burn. But they were all came alive and all screaming out to her for help and trying to move from the fire and put themselves out from the flames. One of the animals was one of those cymbal-clapping monkeys, and one was this skull face.
Does anyone know the name/season of this episode? I wouldn't mind renting it on DVD (if available) for nostalgia sake.
It was called "Nightmare", but it was Season 2, Episode 7, so it isn't out on DVD yet, but will be if they release the second season. I just watched it on tape last night and the events match your description.
As I recall, the fire started with a Kuckoo Clock, the second time the bird emerged, the bird kind of exploded like a gun firing, and that set off the fire.
The stuffed animals and toys burning and melting were screaming for help, lots of ghastly childlike voices, pleading, 'Help Me! I'm on Fire!" Many toys melted and burned down to the burning bones.
One creepy scene in my memory, too. Probably in the top 40 of all creepy scenes. The subtly creepy house, childhood, and tropical vacation island setting added to the subtle horror.
It was a dark, spooky house probably scarier than the one from her childhood, kind of New Orleans Victorian.
-- Possible Spoilers --
The nightmare turned out to be about her future, not her past -- seemed to have a good result as she saved her estranged father from a fire I think.
And 'cause' never was the reason for the evening, --Or the Tropic of Sir Galahad.
Yeah, just reading your description is giving me the creeps!! Imagine seeing that episode when you are a seven year-old child with tons of toys and stuffed animals that you dearly love! I remember I was at a slumber party when we watched it and I couldn't sleep that night I was so terrified. And I remember the toys and animals kept screaming out the woman's name to help them, and the skull was kind of floating around the bedroom until it caught on fire and started screaming for help.
I recently watched this a few weeks ago. It was very a well done set piece--especially the scary clown puppet that comes to life and walks up to the camera.
