BStruthandlogic: This series' first 10 to 14 episodes like all the rest were filmed at the Warner Bros. Studios facilities in Burbank, California when the complex was known as the Burbank Studios for a time, however the difference in those episodes was the fact that all exterior sequences depicting Mr. Roarke's white, candy-cane striped Victorian house were filmed at the Los Angeles State And County Arboretum, a 127 acre preserve and complex dedicated to the research and development of trees and plant species from around the world. The historical heart of that facility was originally the nexus of the old E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin Estate which in its heyday encompassed all of Arcadia, Baldwin Park and two other neighboring cities. The building that served as Mr. Roarke's house in those episodes as well as in the title intro for the entire series was Mr. Baldwin's guest house on the estate and is known as The Queen Anne Cottage. The Arboretum is open to the public for an admission price. This extraordinary gem of a house (the interiors are a stunningly beautiful recreation and fantasy in and of themselves--to say the least) and its prominent lagoon with extensive and exquisitely beautiful surroundings are able to be seen by both tram or in a more leisurely fashion by foot. Many Hollywood motion pictures and television series have had occasion to film there, including for example the Lynda Carter "Wonder Woman" series' (all exterior Paradise Island sequences), the original Johnny Weismueler "Tarzan" movies of the 1930's, and last but not least, several segments of the very famous Humprey Bogart, Katherine Hepburn motion picture, "The African Queen." The Arboretum is located directly across the street from the west end of the Santa Anita Racetrack for any who might be interested in visiting. It is an experience you will never forget!

Wow...Another piece of surreal L.A. nostalgia. It really is a gorgeous place..In the late 70's I went several times to the Arboretum. They had a tiny gift shop..I remember buying peacock feathers - don't ask me why...
