i know the show ran on for another year after herve was dropped over salary disagreements, and the show wasn't as popular without him, so it was cancelled. I was wondering how they incoporated his absence into the script, and whether it was explained by the other characters or something.
can someone clear it up for me?

He committed suicide a long time after the show was over and I thought the show went two more seasons without him? At any rate, he ignored his friends and advisors and hooked up with a much younger lady who eventually came clean about milking him for fame and money and cheating on him left and right. Sad.

I remember reading that he was in a lot of physical pain because he gained weight that his body could not handle(not enough space, much internal pressure), what you said was part of it as well.
shareTattoo's absence was never explained. At the beginning of the last season, Lawrence was suddenly Roarke's assistant, with no mention of Tattoo.

shareNo, but the Season 6 finale titled Remember...When?, did involve the Tattoo character being seriously hurt (head injury) in an auto accident. Mr. Roarke helps him through the surgery and to overcome his depression by reminiscing about their favorite fantasies. Tattoo does not die in this episode.
If i'm not mistaken, this episode marked Herve Villechaize's final appearance on Fantasy Island.
