Question about this

I was discussing the new movie Avatar with a friend at work who claims she saw a movie when she was younger (also called Avatar according to her) that Avatar was based on, mentioning it had some kind of war between nature and technology. Now I don't believe that Avatar is based on a previous film (unless you count Dances with Wolves) but this can't be what she's talking about, right?

Did she mention anything more than that? I'm sure there's more movies with the nature vs. technology theme.

I haven't seen Avatar yet, but... as far as I can tell, these movies are not similar at all, and I highly doubt anyone would be so severely deluded as to even associate them with each other. No offense intended.

She did say it was animated, and that it was old. Wizards as far as I can tell is the closest thing to her description that I could find.

Ah, then it wouldn't surprise me if she meant this.

Have she actually watched Avatar? If not, she might just have drew the conclusion because this one features a character with the same name ('Avatar', that is).

Well, Avatar draws from a lot of sources - in my opinion from the movie "The Emerald Forest" more than any other.
