Similarities to James Cameron's Avatar.

I bet when Cameron wrote the film in 1993 he probably was inspired by this cult classic.

Both movies deal with Sci-fi/fantasy themes of being in the future where technology vs. magic collide! Quatrich is basically like BlackWolf while Jake Sully is like the messiah/leader of rebels who use magic and weapons against technology and both deal with eco-saving stories.

Somehow I doubt it.

I mean...sort of...but the similiarties end there. But neither film is particularly original(not bashing either film I like both). This type of story has been around for a very lonnnnnggg time.

I read somewhere else that this was one of Cameron's favorite films and a definite inspiration for Avatar, though. I kind of accepted that, since it made sense and the person who'd said it seemed as though they'd heard it from some official source. But yes, there are many comparisons to be made between Avatar and previous films. The storyline's been told over and over again in different ways. (Pocahontas, Fern Gully, Dances with Wolves, several Miyazaki films, Broken Arrow and other westerns, several sci-fi moves, etc., can all be easily related to it.)
