I saw Wizards at the tender age of 12 and then hundreds of times in my teen years at midnight movies. Seeing Elinore of Montagar at such an impressionable age caused me to prefer voluptuous brunettes to this very day.
I know, it's terrible. I think you can blame all this on that mysterious 1st girlfriend Bakshi had in his NYC youth. And don't forget the blue eyes, either...
How funny...my brother, me and my best friend were all obsessed with Elinore of Montagar when we were kids. We even knew a girl in school who talked like her and looked a bit like her (no wings, of course) and we forced our obsession on her, ha ha! We'd draw her all the time, including the fact that she was obviously "cold" (or something!) in her skimpy outfit...
There had just never been anything like her before in movies, and in my opinion there still hasn't! Maybe it's because she was based on someone Bakshi felt strongly about, that's why she is so memorable? He ALWAYS had over-sexed women in his movies, after all. But none of them are like Elinore.
Funny too, because nowadays when I watch the movie all I can think is how really BADLY she's drawn--why did I think she was so amazing once??
Sometimes it's not enough merely to teach. One has to punish as well.
Heh heh--nahh, pleeeeze! I love Elinore! It's just, you see...well...I'm IN animation now that I'm a grownup, my job is to notice these things! There are amazing shots of Elinore then ones that AREN'T amazing...example, when she's telling Avatar about what happened when she touched Peace on the shoulder and the demon appeared--her face is goofed up, her body is all crooked, her lips aren't moving with the dialog...from the point of view of a "Professional Animator," (which I'm) it's a mess!
That's all... :)
Holly Wood, on the other hand, was drawn really well and consistently but I don't think she's anywhere near as sexy or cool. That's all

Pilgrim, I know you don't mean to rile us none but you come across like the 2 bit plastic surgeon that looks at a pretty gal and tells her what's wrong with her face. Move along.
eh, the man speaks the truth. and I think he gets bonus points for having a sense of humor.
He's right, though. I like this movie, it's highly intelligent and it's good for it's time... and yeah, actually... the whole thing with Ellinore? The part that warped my fragile little sex-crazed pubescent mind was the scene where they got her stuck between them two walls, in that bondage type situation, wearing that skimpy little dress.
Kinky.
But, regardless, up against modern day animation, the look of the movie is pretty shoddy. It's nostagalic! It's got some unforgettable situations and moments! But, it's still animated kinda crappy. Colors change when they shouldn't, faces and proportions change around and distort, words don't match the way the lips are moving... all sorts of stuff like that.
All this makes me think of Charlie Brown Christmas, though. Probably among the most cheaply animated shorts of all time... but it don't matter because it tells a timeless story, you dig?
And yeah, regardless, I imagine that chick was a real eye opener to quite a few curious young men.
That’s the style of the animation; have you ever seen The new adventures of Mighty mouse? They go off character all the time. The animation style makes Bakshi, Bakshi. She wasn't drawn badly she was drawn Stylized that was suppose to get a point across, and it obviously did because you all felt he same things from that character. In all his animated movies his animation is just like that in wizards (stylized rubber hose). I’m also an animator, and I'm also "trained to see flaws in things", but wizards never bothered me because there is no real flaw. Other then colors changing, but that’s not the animators fault and due to insufficient funds. But what do you want it’s an independent animation. If you want to see the type of flaws you’re talking about watch the little mermaid (vhs) Ariel goes off character in every scene and that’s from a Corp. Animation studio.
Elinore strongly resembles my first wife. Slightly heavy, voluptuous brunette with beautiful blue eyes. My second wife, too, to a lesser extent. Number two is slightly taller and has brown eyes. So I guess you could say, Yes, this movie helped form my taste in women. :)
