Are Italian Horror Films Overshadowed By Italian Mafia Films?

When most people think of Italians in film, they think of mafia films first. Horror films do not cross most people's minds when the topic of Italians in the film industry comes up. Which is a shame because Italians make a lot of good horror films.

And especially not forget Western films, also known as Spaghetti Western

No because there aren't really many Italian mafia films that entered the cultural consciousness in a meaningful way. I mean there's the Godfather and Goodfellas, by Italian American filmmakers, but those are American films. When you say the term "Italian mafia film," all I can personally recall are poliziotteschi films, which are Italian exploitation films (such as the ones by Fernando Di Leo) that aped off the success of films like the Godfather, the French Connection and Dirty Harry. And I'm positive Italian exploitation horror has a wider fan base than poliziotteschi films. I could probably name drop Suspiria or Zombi 2 at a college party and some kid might know what I'm talking about, but I doubt the word Caliber 9 means much to anybody.
