... a familiar? This is what I always theorized as to why the dog attacked him. The dog sensed that it wasn't a child at all but something evil.

I just found it strange that the dog would attack him out of nowhere. Also, the kid didn't seem to act like a kid at all and he seemed to be present when the witches were having a meeting. Perhaps I just have the old school concept stuck in my head that a witch wouldn't have anything to do with children except to cook them up and eat them.
