How do you get from getting skin grafts on your burns to growing a dog's penis with a stinger on the end of it in a hole in your armpit? I love sci-fi and I'm cool with some out there ideas but this one made absolutely no sense.
They were modifying the graft cells so that they would change to suit whatever new location they were placed. So I guess the idea is that cells that can change into anything...can change into anything
"What we're going to do here is something out of the ordinary."
[audience titters knowingly]
"We're going to treat the cells so they become ... "
[wait for it ...]
"MORPHOGENETICALLY NEUTRAL."
I just rewatched this last night, and when I heard that (I was attempting to figure out how her mutation occurred), all I could do is go:
"WWWWHHHAT!?"
My question is how come she didn't become rabid, but her victims did? You'de think that after a while, near the end of the movie at the very least, she'd start foaming at the mouth too.
I'm so scared your little head will come off in my hands!
This is no zombie movie. She is truly, merely, completely dead, probably from injuries suffered in the attack. No evidence of the disease on her disposed corpse. Not sure how she ended up there, actually.
When I saw this at a Los Angeles Cronenberg festival in 1981, complete with the star of Shivers in tow -- that line brought HOWLS and ROARS of laughter.
I thought of it like this: The "neutral" cell acted like a cancer and metastasized to another part of her body effecting her digestive system and forming the growth appendage.
