Is This Film Anti-Open Relationships?

Firstoff, I have to say, this film was really really really fascinating and I'm surprised I haven't heard more about it.

Secondly, Ive been having many discussions about open relationships recently, and I have to say, this really seems like it's offering another, darker perspective ... well, it's also about self destructive tendencies... and possession.

What do you think?

It's one lonely, unfulfilled woman's story about a chance encounter that went horribly wrong. If she was in a relationship at all, it was very one-sided – and not from her side. So I don't see this as being anti-open relationship, though it certainly doesn't put a positive spin on picking up random strangers on New Year's Eve. I hope yours goes better!

Her sister (Tuesday Weld) and brother in law engage in an open marriage, and it does not end well. The sister says she is giving up drugs, drinking, and wild living. We're led to believe that things probably turned out all right for her as a result. Theresa just continues on a downward spiral, and it all ends tragically.

Yes, but as far as I can tell, their parents have a closed relationship, and they're equally miserable.
So maybe this film is just anti-relationship, and in that regard it's probably accurate. 

True...but the parents were miserable in a completely different way. I get the feeling the parents (or at least the father) were going to be miserable no matter who they were in a relationship with, or if they were single for that matter.

In the case of Theresa's sister, it seems that the wild living, drinking and drugs, and other people in the middle of their biz-naz.
