Amazingly, this film aired on network TV in the early 80's

I remember the film's release vividly from my youth and while my mom was fine with taking me and my brothers to r-rated films (it was the 70's) she had no interest in this movie, so when I finally saw this film for the first time a year ago at a retro screening of it I thoroughly it (although it should have been shorten just a little) ... however, I thought to myself that there was no way this film could have aired on network TV given the subject and the tremendous amount of material that would have been cut out.

However, a friend of mine told me that yes it did on ABC and he uncovered two airings from his collection of beta tapes. One from 1980 (last 40 minutes) and another from 1982; I haven't watched them yet, but it will be interesting to see how the censors handled them (I do have one version of this movie taped of Z-Channel in LA, but the taper seemed to have cut certain parts out.)

Does anyone else remember this film airing on commercial-TV?

In my memory, I feel like I saw it on tv many years ago, so I'm going to say yes.

ABC did show the film, but it was sanitized with a capital "S". The murder scene is one stab, and then the credits. I basically remember that much.
Much like a feral cat defanged, and with its claws removed.

I remember watching this on a Fox affiliate in the early '90s. It was heavily cut but the tone was still very grim.

I remember seeing this movie on television. I was later shocked in how explicit the sex scenes were when I bought the VHS video. I didn't realize how heavily edited the movie was when it played on television.

I used to watch it about 20 + years ago, and I remember some nudity being cut out, and part of the sex scene with her college professor toward the beginning.

That's why I wouldn't like watching this movie, or any other movie, on commercial TV--too much editing and censoring.

I remember seeing the preview for it on ABC, with the announcer saying, "Parental discretion advised."

I normally hate movies on TV that have been edited, but the great thing about this film was that there were at least two deleted scenes that were added-- One where she's ice skating and the professor is watching her and applauding wildly; she skates up to him and says, "But do you love me?" Another is hazier in my memory, but it involved a nun, possibly Diane as the nun. I would really love to get a copy of those scenes.
