A unique film in the Warner library

The film was an MGM/WB co-production. Little did they know that the latter would eventually acquire the rights to the former's pre-1986 library.

So, here's how the distribution has been set up:

*WB and MGM co-distributed the initial theatrical run in the USA, with the latter getting all rights after it ended. WB was sole international distributor.

*In 1986, MGM sold its library to Turner, and continued to distribute on video for 13 years.

*In 1996, Turner sold his media empire to Time Warner.

*In 1999, video rights to Turner's library moved to WB.

All the meanwhile, WB had the international video rights during the years that MGM had US rights. Now WB has worldwide rights.

Weird huh?

Weird. But in hindsight, one the few Time Warner "acquisitions" I'm sure the company doesn't mind having on its sorry balance sheet.

There, daddy, do I get a gold star?

Question: If a film under the UA banner was released in 1980, will WB now have exclusive rights?
