Either way, he looked A LOT older than his actual age of 29. I would have pegged him for 35 at least. Wasn't that gray in his hair?

I asked the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

It was all gray nearly. He went gray very early in life, around 27.

I just saw the movie the other night on DVD with captions, which reported it as 63.

I agree with your interpretation of the remark, though. Dreyfuss's premature gray roots added a delightful layer of irony to the remark that otherwise wouldn't have been there. A prematurely graying young guy claiming to be old so he can boast about looking young.

I thought he said '63' too. Obviously he wasn't but it bugged me that I never found out how old he really was and Dreyfuss being 29 then yet looking older confused me...

Reminds me of Kurt Russell, who appeared as a young boy in Follow Me, Boys! - a scouting movie with Fred McMurray (very good too). At the end of the movie, "grown up" Kurt appears, played, obviously, by an adult actor of the day - who looks nothing like ACTUAL grown up Kurt as we know him!
