I watched this a bunch of times, but never noticed ... and now I wonder ...

why did Woody Allen and Tony Roberts keep calling each other Max throughout the movie? You, or at least I, barely notice this, but Tony Roberts starts calling Woody Max at the beginning of the movie when they are walking down the sidewalk together, and Woody asks him why do you keep calling me Max, and he says, because you look like a Max, you should be a Max. But then at some point Woody starts calling him Max back.

Did anyone notice this, and does anyone know why?

When I look at this movie, I think, this was the American answer to Monty Python, it is so silly and bizarre, but I think it goes Monty Python one better, because it tells a good story with real characters. Love this one.
