If you haven't already heard, American Life Network (which we receive on Time Warner cable) is running LOU GRANT on Wednesday nights. It just started on Wednesday, October 3. I've wondered why this great show has been absent from the tube for so long.
It was strange to see Rebecca Balding on episode one instead of Linda Kelsey. Wonder what happened there? RB only made three episodes.
She got a gig as "Carol" on "Soap" in 1978, which turned out to be a big hit. The two shows started within one year of each other, so she probably auditioned for both, figuring that "Soap" was the better option.
You are SOOO lucky! Make sure you record every precious moment on tape or DVD, since the network isn't letting it out of the can anytime soon. Damn shame, too. I wonder if we can get T-W cable here...hmmmm....
Lou Grant is back on the air after being missing in action for years....
"Lou Grant" replaced "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.","I Spy", and "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E" after American Life TV finally got rid of these boring and stupidical spy shows. Check out the Wednesday night lineup........
You have to lobby your cable company to add it. Call them and get your friends and family to call too. I have Charter cable and we started getting American Life about two years ago.
You're welcome! My sister is currently trying to get her cable company (Comcast) to carry it. She's envious of me having it, with Mary Tyler Moore, Newhart, WKRP, St. Elsewhere, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, etc. During the day it's a lot of cooking and travel shows, but the nighttime lineup beats anything on the networks!
All I can say is wow! What a dream lineup! I watched all those shows during the '70s and '80s. When I compare the quality of those treasures to the unspeakably bad stuff on TV these days...well, words fail me. Enjoy every second of it! I wish the best of luck to your sister, and I will tell Cox that this channel would be a great asset to our cable viewing.
American Life TV has dethroned Nick-at-Nite, TV Land, and the Hallmark Channel in regards to the quality of programming from which they have surely abandoned!
The nighttime lineup beats anything that the regular networks have and a better quality then some of the stupidity that is on TV now...anything better than the reality crap that has poisoned the outcome of the what is entertainment now!!!
PLEASE HAVE YOUR CABLE COMPANY TO CARRY IT!!! I have this on Time-Warner Cable!
Not only American Life TV carries Mary Tyler Moore,Bob Newhart,WKRP,Hill Street Blues,L.A. Law but also they got Lou Grant,Trapper John,MD and Medical Center(yes,Chad Everett!!!)
Get this....you have also shows that have been missing in action for years.... "Mission:Impossible"-the original TV show that has been absent for years until American Life TV brought it back!!! I heard they put "Hawaii Five-O" on the schedule too!!!
"The FBI"-another great shows from years past...Efrem Zimbalist,Jr.?
Plus...it also has "Lost In Space","Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea", "The Time Tunnel",and "Land of the Giants"-Thursday night is Irwin Allen night!!
Also where else will you find the original "Tarzan" TV series with Ron Ely,which hasn't been seen in years!!! Only on American Life TV!!!
I logged onto American Life TV's website and asked them to please offer their channel to Cox Cable (I am going to call Cox, too). If they carry it, it will be worth what we currently pay for the 300+ channels we DON'T watch.
Here is ALTV's website for those who would like to see what it's all about: http://www.goodtv.com
I remember the days when Nick at Nite carried shows like "Route 66" and other great old programs to watch in the middle of the night. It was comfort TV, a quiet retrospective. Now, like everything else, it's LOUD and loaded with constant commercial advertising. American Life TV sounds like the perfect antidote to the submoronic crap that's been playing on network television for the past decade. Everybody should have this channel!
Plus, American Life has Batman and Green Hornet on Friday nights. If you're a fan of those shows, record them, as we may never see them on DVD in our lifetime, due to numerous legal issues.
BRING OUT SEASON THREE OF THE GREAT ONCE AND AGAIN ON DVD!
I stumbled onto this channel by accident and they were showing what looked like a broadway version of the Honeymooners. I actually thought it was new and couldn't believe they got such spot on actors to play Ralph and Norton. Then I found out this thing was made in 1967 and the actors were the originals. I had no idea there was a musical version of the Honeymooners prior to this. I went thru their lineup and saw that they picked up several '70's tv shows: MTM, Bob Newhart, WKRP and they also had Kotter and Chico + Man (which they dropped for some reason). This and Trapper John are quite the find actually, a good addition.
I hope this network succeeds and they get more shows. For us 40+ folks, its like a time warp (BTW, Alice (!) is on ION channel. Now thats a memory)
