Cast members in 'The Hospital' (1971)
I finally got around to watching THE HOSPITAL, the black comedy by Paddy Chayevsky that was released in 1971. The main stars were George C Scott and Diana Rigg. However, in the first 15 minutes of the film, we first run into Robert "Rossi" Walden as a brash, gum-chewing doctor, and shortly afterwards, Nancy "Mrs. Pynchon" Marchand shows up as the head nurse (with her natural-colored hair). Both actors are of course several years younger than how we got to know them on LOU GRANT. And Nancy Marchand is a very different sort of character than regal old Mrs. P.
Interestingly enough, Nancy Marchand's first imdb credit is Paddy Chayevsky's famous MARTY, in the original 1953 TV version with Rod Steiger (when she was only 25). Perhaps Paddy recommended her for the HOSPITAL gig.
