The new remake!

Supposedly this is being remade, targeted to be released sometime in 2011.

I think Daniel Day Lewis would be an interesting choice to play the older Christ.

Does anyone have any additional info on the remake? (as of 2008 IMDB has no details, just the date - 2011)

I wish they wouldn't try and remake this. I love this film. At least call it something else. When George Lucas dies, I bet they'll try and remake Star Wars.

I think the new Christ has to be appealing to all races. What about this Italian/American actor Peter Facinelli ? :

His eyes look like Oriental and yet they are pale. You need to change his hairdress into curly or even Rasta style and add a very dark tan and perhaps a prosthetic Semitic nose. If you do this you have a real metamorphosis impossible to identify.

I'll guess he would need to drink carrot with orange juice or beet & orange juice and eat mango, watermelon, brocolli, cabbage and tomatoe a whole month before using sunfilters with carrot essence to tan his skin. And even so, he can't overdo this 'cos since he's too white his skin would look yellow rather than brownish.

There's a thin gap between skepticism and cynicism

Daniel would be about 53-54 years old that year. Wasn´t Jesus about 30-35 when he died??

reply

yes but he's such an amazing actor, he would pull it off no prob

I don't want a remake and can't really see one being made. This was an miniseries/drama lasting 6 hours. They would have to cut so much to make it even 3 hours.
However, if they were to do it then I would like to see Johnny Depp take on the role of Jesus. I think he would bring something different to the part.

I do not wish for a remake. I want this series released and completely restored on dvd with subtitles and interviews with the cast before they die. Most of them are still alive 30 years later.

reply

Please no remake. Restore the original for release on Blu-ray.

It's impossible to do a remake! Bringing back the whole crew is not possible! There can be only another movie about the life of Jesus! That is possible but calling that a remake! Come on, than you can say every Jesus-movie is a remake of "Jesus of Nazareth"!

Following up on the actor choice thread - I've only seen Adrian Brody in "The Pianist," so I don't know how great he is as an actor. But when he grows his hair long and grows a beard toward the end of the film, he looks "christlike." He might be okay as Jesus.

I can't imagine a remake of this being in any way an improvement on the original. I was ill with the flu the first time "Jesus of Nazareth" was telecast as a miniseries; it was during Holy Week and I had to miss all of the liturgy. It was odd, but watching the movie I really felt Christ's presence that week, maybe more than I would have in Church.
