It is not David Gates and Bread. I have always wondered if it were Parker Stevenson, but do not know this for sure. IF anyone knows who sang this version, please let me know. It has haunted me for 40 years. lol
shareI just watched it on Youtube. It sounds like a song cover done specifically for this episode since it has instrumental cut ins where there should be lyrics from the original song. TV shows and movies tend to do this so that it adds nuance to the scene its supporting unlike the original song itself. If you really want to get into the technicals perhaps you can find the DVD/Blu Ray version and buy/rent it to review the final credits. They usually show who was involved with both the soundtrack and film score.
